Does your face go to one side when you speak or fluid /food comes out from one side of mouth?
If you have rapidly developed difficulty in keeping an eyelid closed or it keeps partially open during blinking or sleeping , or fluid/food comes out from one side of mouth ,from the same side where eye is not completely closed, then it denotes 7th cranial nerve dysfunction causing facial paralysis. In this condition eyelids are open exposing cornea of eye to the risk of getting infected. This also produces facial asymmetry – on speaking face – angle of mouth goes to opposite side This is called Bell’s Palsy which commonly occurs due to a virus – Herpes Zoster or infection in middle ear.
This is one of the cranial neuropathy. Similarly, other cranial nerve involvement produces loss of vision in optic neuritis (2nd nerve of brain responsible for vision is called optic nerves), double vision / squint (3rd 4th 6th nerve these are the nerves of brain controlling the eye ball movement in a synchronised coordinated manner),dizziness vertigo (8th nerve responsible for hearing and balancing), difficulty in swallowing (9th 10th nerve), change in speech/ voice (9th,10th & 12th nerve).
